Mass Effect: Andromeda — Tons of New Details Released

A wealth of new information emerges for EA’s next space adventure!

Yesterday, Mass Effect’s annual N7 Day brought us several dollops of new information on Mass Effect Andromeda, and following the release of the new trailer (which you can see below), tons of new details have since leaked about the upcoming sequel.

The information, which appeared on NeoGAF via the latest issue of Game Informer, reveal that Mass Effect: Andromeda will take place in a different galaxy a century after the events of Mass Effect 3, so there will be no continuation of Shepard’s story. This is a new and self-existing Mass Effect story.

Players will take on the role of Ryder (who can be male or female, depending on your decision). Ryder is a Pathfinder, who’s tasked with leading humanity’s search for a new home in the uncharted and unforgiving region of an entirely new galaxy as part of the Andromeda Initiative (hence the game’s name).

In the beginning of past Mass Effect games, you were also required to choose a class. This class system has been done away with, with a branching skill tree now the standard progression system, giving players the chance to boost or change up their skills and gameplay style throughout the game.

Melee combat will also play a bigger role in Andromeda, as players will have the ability to wield swords and hammers and other close-combat weapons.

Andromeda will use a dynamic cover system similar to The Last of Us, although you’ll now be able to use the game’s new jetpack ability to quick dash and hover above ground to target enemies behind cover.

Like other ME games, you’ll have your squad to build and look after, and there will be far more detailed conversation and interaction possibilities with them.

Traversing planets will be quicker and more varied, and you’ll have the Nomad (a huge space vehicle) to ride around to find side quests, combat scenarios, and puzzles in.

There will also be a multiplayer component to the game, and is described as an improved version of Mass Effect 3‘s four-player horde mode. Multiplayer again ties into the main campaign, although not in a way that affects Andromeda‘s ending.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is set for a March 2017 launch on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. More details as we hear them.
