Well, we’re in the meaty part of the year, with some big-name game releases on the cards this month, and October isn’t pulling any punches. Let’s take a look at the most-anticipated releases arriving this month:
Forza Horizon 4
Release date: 2 October 2018 (Xbox One)
Forza‘s more arcade-centric spin-off returns for another dash around the track, as Forza Horizon 4 brings with it a massive, new open-world, over 450 vehicles, gorgeous visuals, and a new seasonal weather mode, which will open up new areas on the map and change the terrain, based on the current climate. The Forza Horizon series has improved with each entry, and with the fourth already receiving some incredible early impressions, this one is likely to be another stellar instalment for the franchise.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Release date: 5 October 2018 (Xbox One | PS4 | PC)
The next entry in Ubisoft’s beloved stab-’em-up franchise takes players to the oldest period of the series so far, playing as ancient assassin Alexios or Kassandra in 431 BC. It’s more of what we’ve come to love from the series, but it’s also clear that Odyssey will be more in line with the previous title, Origins, and is the most RPG-focused Assassin’s Creed game to date. Along with a deeper story and combat mechanics, the game also features interactive dialogue trees and the chance to participate in massive battles of up to 300 soldiers.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
Release date: 12 October 2018 (Xbox One | PS4 | PC)
Call of Duty fans are in for some more classic CoD action when Black Ops 4 hits shelves this month, but this time around, there won’t be a single-player campaign to distract you from the multiplayer component. While that does leave less modes to explore, it only means that a serious focus has been placed on the online elements of the game, bringing enhancements to the fan-favourite multiplayer modes, a revamped Zombies portion, and a battle royale-inspired match-type called Blackout which brings together 100 players to duke it out.
Soul Calibur VI
Release date: 19 October 2018 (Xbox One | PS4 | PC)
For any nostalgic PS2 owners, there are two heavyweight fighting games that they’ll be instantly familiar with: Tekken and Soul Calibur. The Soul Calibur series doesn’t just let you beat opponents to a pulp using your bare hands, but instead gives you access to characters that have mastered a number of conventional and bizarre weapons for you to eradicate your foes with – and SC VI will be the first outing on this current generation consoles. Favourite characters, new battlegrounds, and some refined combat and gameplay tweaks await established fans that have been waiting for a new instalment in the SC franchise.
Red Dead Redemption 2

Easily the biggest game of the year arrives this month, as Rockstar’s Western sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, rides into stores guns blazing! The highly-anticipated release follows the nefarious activities of Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde Gang, throwing players into a massive, ever-changing open world where you’ll have to rob trains, encounter rival gangs, evade cunning lawmen, and immerse yourself in a sprawling story set during the tail-end of the Wild West era.
