Games releasing in SA this week 5 Oct

This week, gamers are in for the first batch of October’s heavy hitters, with the robots in disguise, Playstation’s treasure-hunting hero, and a returning music game all headlining the week’s game release schedule.

Here’s our picks of the game releases this week:

Transformers: Devastation

Release date: 6 October (Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, PC) – Buy on Raru.co.za

We’ve had some pretty fun Transformers games released alongside the big-screen counterparts, but no game has truly captured the nostalgia and vivid visuals of the G1 cartoon, until now. Transformers: Devastation is a new beat-’em-up action game based on the original Transformers cartoon series from the 80s. What’s even better is that the crazy minds at Platinum Games (Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, Bayonetta) are developing this one. Players will be able to control one of five Autobots: Optimus Prime, Bumblebee,Sideswipe, Wheeljack, and Grimlock as they battle against Decepticon forces in large 3D environments. We’re ready to rollout for this one.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection

Release schedule: 7 October 2015 (PS4) – Buy on Raru.co.za

If there’s any series warranting your choice of siding with Playstation, the Uncharted franchise is it. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection prepares you for the fourth instalment (releasing in 2016) by catching you up with the first three brilliant adventures, namely Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Not only have the games been remastered, but they also come with new Trophies and modes such as Explorer, Speed Run, and Brutal Modes will allow players to experience these classics in a new way while introducing newcomers the Uncharted series.

Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition

Release date: 9 October 2015 (PS4, Xbox One) – Buy on Raru.co.za

2012’s apocalyptic action game sequel, Darksiders II, is making a beefed-up return to the Playstation 4 and Xbox One this week. While a rather ridiculous name, the Deathinitive Edition has been visually upgraded to run at 1080p on the newer consoles, giving some higher resolution to the already gorgeous comic-book inspired visuals, as well as having all previously-released DLC added to the experience. The loot distribution system has also been reworked, and some fine tuning and balancing also promises to make the game a more enjoyable adventure the second time around.

Rock Band 4

Release date: 6 October (Xbox One, PS4)

While Guitar Hero Live features a redesigned guitar controller and new first-person video of live crowds, Rock Band 4 sticks to the formula the series established so well. This isn’t a revolutionary Rock Band game, but it’s shaping up to be at least evolutionary. This adherence to the old Rock band design means new players can enjoy the fruits of the entire series. PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 controllers work with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game, so you don’t need to pick up new instruments if you still have your old ones. Several gameplay aspects have also been enhanced and the addition of a freestyle solo system adds to the fun.

I would love to get Rock Bank 4, but I suspect the price to be well over R3000, and that’s a lot for a nice drinking game to be played every now and then at a party or so.

although after thinking about it it would just be for nostalgia. they aren’t complex enough to be a full on game

I find the rock band/guitar hero games so pointless. Pick up an instrument.
