3 Most Anticipated Sports Clashes This Weekend

This weekend brings a host of sporting action to enjoy, including a Currie Cup encounter that’s sure to be a cracker, some Sevens rugby action that all eyes will be on, and an unmissable Euro 2016 qualifier clash that should garner your attention.

Western Province vs Sharks
Saturday, 17:00

The Sharks, riding high off consecutive victories over the Blue Bulls and Golden Lions, will be looking to upset Western Province in their home ground of Newlands come Saturday.

Regardless of the result though, Western Province are assured a top of the log spot, and coach Allister Coetzee has seen the match as a chance to introduce some youngsters into the mix. Louis Schreuder and Kurt Coleman will provide some experience in the No. 9 and 10 jerseys respectively, but the experienced Sharks outfit should get a win out of this encounter with the likes of new Springbok Cobus Reinach and their talented backline in great form.

South Africa Sevens vs Kenya Sevens

South Africa will once again meet their African rivals Kenya in the Gold Coast Sevens this weekend. Former South African coach, Paul Treu, who is now in charge of the Keynans, will be relishing the chance to topple his former team, now under the coaching eye of Neil Powell.

And with the likes of Seabelo Senatla, Justin Geduld, Cecil Afrika and Co. in great form, it’s likely that the Blitzbokke will be a force to reckon with in the Sevens Series this year.

Poland vs Germany

It’ll be interesting to see how World Cup winners Germany do against their long-time rivals Poland in the Group D fixture of the Euro 2016 qualifier on Saturday.

Poland lead Group D on goal difference, having hammered Gibraltar 7-0 in their opener. Germany are tied with Poland and Ireland on three points, but they are behind the Poles, having won their opener with Scotland by a narrow, 2-1 margin.

The two sides previously met at the 2006 World Cup and at Euro 2008. Both of those competitive fixtures were won by Germany, but in friendlies in 2011 and May of this year, Poland held firm to claim draws.
