5 big movies releasing in SA this weekend

Which movies are hitting our big-screens this weekend? MenStuff gives you the low-down on what’s what.

If you’re planning on hitting the movies this weekend, we’ve got you covered for what’s on. This weekend we’ve got a cotton-stuffed comedy, a disaster movie of epic proportions and a local movie that captures the essence of coming of age in SA.

Ted 2

Foul-mouthed teddy bear Ted (voiced by Seth MacFarlane), one of 2012’s big comedy hits, is back — and this time he wants to be a parent. However, he’s going to need some help from his friend John (Mark Wahlberg), and he has to prove to the courts that he’s human. Expect a lot of crude humour, sexual content, horrendous language and drug use. We expect nothing less.

San Andreas

One of the flagpole movies of Hollywood’s summer movie season is the big budget disaster movie by the name of San Andreas, and its hitting South African cinemas this weekend. It stars Dwayne Johnson, Paul Giamatti, Iaon Gruffudd, Kylie Minogue (yip, the singing Aussie who also appeared in Street Fighter movie), Ken Watanabe and Colton Hayes. And basically, it looks like an effects-driven extravaganza, with Johnson playing a rescue helicopter pilot dealing with the aftermath of a massive earthquake.

Hollywood in my Huis

If you’re looking for some local flavour this weekend, Hollywood in my Huis could deliver. The film is a locally-produced coming-of-age romantic comedy set against the backdrop of a 2004 matric dance. It follows Jana, who has to make the difficult choice between her closest friend and her dream date, with a little guidance from her parents and her fairy godmother, Suzy,
