Jake White: Cheetahs “one of the most conservative teams”

Former Springbok and current Brumbies coach Jake White has claimed that the Cheetahs are not as exciting and entertaining as people would like to believe.

“There’s this perception, it’s funny how it works, that certain teams score a lot of tries and they run from everywhere,” White said.

“It’s not the case at all. I think they are probably one of the most conservative teams in the competition.

“They don’t play like Australian teams, they actually play more like South African teams.”

The Cheetahs have racked up 38 tries throughout the season, above the Force (26) and Reds (31), although a fair bit below the other teams in the competition.

“They [Cheetahs] play exactly like the Reds. They kick as much as the Reds as well,” he said.

“They kick a lot, they let you play in your own half, and if you make a mistake then they pounce.”

The Cheetahs are set to face the Brumbies in Canberra on Sunday, 21 July 2013, at 08:10 kick-off.

I agree with Jake, they don’t play that exciting brand of rugby that the New Zealand
teams have become known for in recent times but they have played with such consistency and tenacity that its payed off. Maybe sometimes it’s not the beautiful rugby that wins games.

Will be an exciting game! Hopefully the Cheetahs come out on top.
