James O’Connor has been named as the captain of the Rebels for the upcoming clash against the Waratahs.

22-year old O’Connor will step in for Gareth Delve, who has been ruled out due to injury.

“James has really matured over the past six months as a footballer, and was humbled by the opportunity when I presented the captaincy role to him,” said Rebels coach Damien Hill.

Despite the loss of Delve, the Rebels are boosted by the inclusion of Manly Marlin Jordy Reid, while Cadern Neville moves into the starting line-up.

“We have spoken about the Club’s depth this year compared to others, and for the Rebels to be able to replace Delve with Higginbotham, while bringing in Wallaby tourists to the starting team is a demonstration of that,” said Hill.

Higginbotham now moves into the number 8 position, while Luke Jones shifts onto the blindside flank.

The Rebels are set to play the Waratahs on Friday at Allianz Stadium in Sydney.
