The SA U20 Springbok squad took on the USA at La Roche sur Yon, France, for the first round of the Junior World Cup, managing to defeat the Americans 97-0 in a utterly convincing victory.
The defending champions scored a wealth of tries, with winger and Sevens star Seabelo Senatla crossing the line four times to equal to JWC record for most individual tries in a single match.
“It was good to get the first match out of the way. However, I cautioned the guys that this is an extremely tough competition and that we will keep our feet firmly on the ground,” said Dawie Theron, SA Under-20 coach.
“There are still two tough pools matches waiting for us against England and home team France. Our backs did the job for us but they could only do so because our forwards laid the platform with some really good, hard work up front,” added Theron.
South Africa next play England on Sunday at the same venue. England beat hosts France 30-6.

That was a brilliant performance, one of the best ive seen in a long time – Both wingers, both fullbacks used and both centres are outstanding.

I really like what Brendon Venter has done with the backline – awesome to watch! But I reckon you’re right, Jim, the forwards laid an impressive foundation and that’s where the games against England and France will be won or lost.
I still don’t know what the Bulls are planning with so many quality loosies on their roster – surely they can’t give them all enough game time down the line. I’m not complaining though!

Yeah, the England and France encounters will be the true test. Yip, Louis! As a Bulls fan you’re spoilt for choice! And Handre Pollard is definitely a future Super Rugby Bulls centre, alongside Serfontein, JJ Engelbrecht.

For sure, and then you factor in Frans Venter (if he’s staying) and Dries Swanepoel and suddenly you have too many again..! I hope they play Pollard at fly-half next year because that’s where our depth is a bit thin.
Bulls look like they are getting the large squad/ squad rotation thing right – and I reckon it’s showing since they have the least amount of major injuries.
Looking forward to Bok rugby this weekend!
