The world’s greatest hair-model (and former footballer, apparently) has released his third H&M Modern Essentials range, which is now available in SA.
Masculine, urban and sharp, the Modern Essentials selected by David Beckham creates anew male uniform for the city for autumn 2016 at H&M. It’s about individual pieces that work together or stand on their own, like the flight jacket, the chunky sweater, the nylon bomber
and the tailored pant. A precise colour palette of grey, navy and wine red sets the urbanmood, with the attention focused on materials and textures.
“I had such a great time putting together the looks for this autumns Modern Essentials collection at H&M. I love the new flight jacket, and the sharp double-breasted coat that’s like a fresh update on a true menswear classic,” says David Beckham.
“Menswear right now is all about this new urban uniform, where the precision of design and fabrics is all important. These are the perfect pieces to build a wardrobe for the new season, the essentials that will make men look sharp every day,” says Andreas Löwenstam, H&M’s men’s Head of Design.
When David Beckham selects the pieces for this H&M collection, he takes the word essentials seriously. The fresh new flight jacket takes a menswear classic and updates it for today in wool, while the nylon zip-up bomber is the must-have essential for men this season.
A double-breasted knee-length coat adds the perfect touch of formality, and a semiconstructed two-button blazer can be worn as either a smart or informal piece.
Sweaters are crucial to the look, both for their texture and structure. A chunky navy turtleneck gives body, while a block stripe sweater plays with different ribs to create its pattern. Tailored pants elevate the look, while faded denim jeans prove their importance to the urban uniform. Finish the look with knit beanies, long fine-knit scarves and aviator shades.

As for Beckham’s Bodywear line, new range aims to include dynamic items that can be worn while lounging at home or in the street.
Technical fleece crewneck sweaters are ribbed with David’s branding at the waist, and the same is true for matching sweatpants, while the wide rib crewneck of a cotton T-shirt is emblematic of the design attention to detail throughout.
“I’m really proud of this Bodywear collection. The sweats and T-shirts are pieces I’ll wear all day long, and I can’t wait to lounge at home in the new morning robe,” says David Beckham.
“David is always pushing his Bodywear collection forward at H&M. It’s great how he is evolving the idea of what Bodywear can be, and how it can fit into a man’s wardrobe,” says Andreas Löwenstam, H&M’s men’s Head of Design.
The colour palette is masculine and crisp, inspired by the rigour of urban architecture. This is especially seen in the new grey morning robe, the perfect piece for total relaxation.
The pieces will be available in all H&M stores that carry menswear, as well as online, from 29 September 2016.
